Sommer joined Thomas & Efraim LLP in 2015. Prior to joining Thomas & Efraim LLP Sommer worked at the Durham Legal Clinic which provided her with insight and working knowledge of Tribunals such as the Landlord Tenant Board, Workplace Safety & Insurance Board, Workplace Safety and Appeals Tribunal, and the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario. Her role as duty counsel at the Landlord Tenant Board makes her skilled at advising both tenants and landlords.
Sommer regularly advises clients on day-to-day residential real estate transactions including purchases, sales & refinances. Sommer has a client focused approach to residential real estate transactions and has developed a keen eye for spotting potential issues that may arise and advising clients on how to manage the purchase or sale of a home or condominium. She also works closely with her colleagues on complex real estate issues, business transactions, intellectual property matters and wills.
Sommer is a hands on legal practitioner who focuses on developing strong relationships with her clients, she ensures they are comfortable with the service she provides and walk away satisfied.
Sommer has been a piano player since the age of 5. This has in turn fueled her love of music and the arts. She serves as a Board member of a not-for profit arts organization named Animating Democracy and has assisted Nia Centre for the Arts, a not-for profit organization, by providing a workshop discussing trademarks and copyrights. She also has mentees whom she mentors about pursuing a career in law. Sommer’s other community engagements include: Black Female Lawyers Network, the Durham Law Association and the Ontario Bar Association. A diehard Toronto Raptors fan, she manages to squeeze in time to root for the home team!
